Special City Council Meeting
Thursday, March 29,2007
DRAFT Minutes Page 17 of 20
l tity needed to be established that was going to take ownership, or become the care-
taker, to make sure the vision came to fruition.

7

1
Mr. Traynor noted that this was a question of the community as well, how to make
the follow through happen.
Councilmember Pust opined that as elected officials, the City Council needed to
have the discussion on what to do and in what order, or the visioning document
would become stale quickly and just be another piece of paper.
11 Mr. Traynor opined that embedded in this document were opportunities to provide
. meaningful engagement by adopting and developing work items around that en-
: gagement and allowing the community to check in on the document; having mile-
l stones established to determine how we're progressing; and to celebrate milestones
1 as opportunities to gauge progress and keep citizens involved in the process. Mr.
1 Traynor provided an example when the Planning Commission sought staff input on
I whether Vista 2000 had been implemented; with staff providing a point by point
1 update on what had been achieved, and the Planning Commission noting the re-
1 markable number of items that had been implemented, and that were embedded in
 the document as milestones.
1

f
8

0
3

.:
Ms. Berry suggested that, perhaps, all people participating in subcommittees, could
come together on the anniversary of this presentation; and that the City could call
on Chairs of each subcommittee, with the assistance of staff, and make them re-
sponsible for contacting their committee members to get together. Ms. Berry noted
that many of those younger people will need to carry the vision forward, as they
become active in the community and their expectations of the City Council and fu-
ture City Council's in moving the document forward, as well as the City Council
calling their attention to the document to see that they're watching and continuing
to invite their participation.
Councilmember Kough expressed his interest in adopting the document.
: Mayor Klausing concurred with Councilmember Kough, and noted that while the
; City Council adopts the document and will be initially responsible for moving
things forward, over the long-term things will flow upward from the grass roots of
the community and provide legitimacy to the living document and its recommenda-
8 tions.
3
