Police Department CERT Program {Citizen Emergency <br />Response Team} <br />Polzce Chief Carol Sletner and Police Sergeant Randy Johnsan <br />provided background information related to Community <br />Emergency Response Teams (CERT), a non-traditiona�, <br />community based va�unteer organization designed to prepare for <br />effec�ive disaster response through training and p�anning. <br />Sergeant Johnson reviewed Vari�us components o� the proposed <br />program, ineluding valunteer training; topics for taraining; new <br />technologies that would enhance former civil defense <br />opportunities; financial implication� and anticipated grant <br />funding from the Roseville Community Fund and receip� of <br />funding fram Marshall Fields to co��r the costs for training and <br />implementation. Sergeant Johnson apined that this program <br />served as a grea� appartuni�y to energize and engage the <br />community in � way not done befare; and to tap into a group <br />already trained for future ac�ivities. <br />Ihlan moved, Kough seconded, adoption of a Communi�y <br />Emergency Response Team (CERT) as autlined in the s�aff <br />repor� dated February 13, 2006. <br />Mayor Klausing expressed his appreciatian %r the department <br />taking �he initiative �or �his innovative program; and encouraged <br />all depar�men�s to pursue innovative approaches �oar services and <br />programs. <br />Counci�member Pust expressed her support of �he program, <br />particularly tying it into the exzsting neighbarhood watch <br />coordination groups; and �he cooperation of the Cities of New <br />Brighion and Falcon Heights to work together and train aur <br />volunteers, observing that disas�ers weren't city-exclusive. <br />Folice Department <br />CERT Program <br />
