Parks and Recreation Director Lonnie Brokke concurred that staff was always monitoring funding sources; but was unaware of any monies available at this time; and noted the competition for grant monies, creating additional challenges. Mr. Brokke further noted that the Pathway Committee was formed as part of the Vista 2000; and that the pathway ranking and overall community connectivity needed to be reassessed. Mr. Brokke noted the time and effort of the original committee; their rationale; and the desire to Iink no� just the community, but the regional trail system. Mi-. Brokke advised that the pathway committee was meeting until approximately 2002 or 2003 to update the ranking annually and make recommendations, but had not met for several years, as their legitimacy was questioned by the City Council at that time, when discussions regarding the proposed B-2 pathway recommendations were under discussion and funding sources identified, awarded, and later returned unused. Mr. Brokke concurred that Ms. Reitz' request was legitimate. Mayor Klausing opined that, while he was in favor of staff pursuing pathway funding, without a discussion of the overall system, he didn't feel comfortable moving this segment to the top of the priority list. Further discussion included whether to reinstate the Pathway Committee for a review of the entire system; including pathways in the community visioning process; who initiates pathway requests, staff or City Councilmembers; Councilmember Kough opined that he preferred to approach the County Commissioners to present a case for this pathway segment.
