June 1,2006
Our missio; is to reduce vraste today through innovative resolue management and to
reach a waste-fietomorrow by demonstrat:ng ihat vvte is preventable, not inevitable.
Tit Pratt
City of Roseville
2660 Civic Center Dr.
Roseville, ' 55113
Dear Tim:
As you may know, the current situation for green glass has deteiaratcl to the point that
Anchor Glass in Shakapee is no longer accepting green glass or thee-calorec mixed
glass. Anchor Glass in Shacoree has been the only market for recycling glass in our area
for the past two decades. We are busy working with them and another glass recycler to
provide some solutions for the current glass recycling crisis. We'd like to meet with you
to discuss some of these potential solutions.
As of May , 2006, Anchor Glass notified their customers that they are no longer
accepting green glass. In addition, Eureka Recycling had an agreement with Anchor
Glass to take our three color mix since it was a very small amount, wich they will no
longer be able to do. Also for your irfo..atvz, Anchor increased the value of alaa
(flint) glass to $65lton and decreased the value of brown (arner) glass to $5/to.
We are not taking immediate action to stop the collection of green glass in Roseville or
other cities we serve because we have secured a temporary market for green and mix
glass. The glass collected in Roseville is still being recycled into glass. This market has
asked to be held in confidence since they would be saturated by requests to accept this
glass. As long as this market continues to accept green glass at no cost to Eureka
Recycling we will be able to maintain the current situation. However, this letter is
intended to seve as a fozzal notice as outlined in the contract section V.2. below in
regards to glass and lack of adequate market demand because we expect this market to
cease to accept tis material very soon.. We are including a proposed per ton fee
amendment in which the city has 30 days to respond.
V,2, Lac1 cf Adeaua#e Miet Deiiand if the Contractar detenllines that there is no
market for a particular recyciab6 or that the market has become economically
unfeasible, the Contractar slall nlmediately give written notice to the City.
