Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes -August 11, 2009 <br />Page 2 of 6 <br />1 ~ Schools and Rotary Club; estimated total budget for the event for food and facilitator(s) <br />2 of approximately $1,006; and review of last year's revenue sources and expenditures for <br />3 comparison purposes. <br />4 <br />5 Discussion included proposed speakers, including former HRC Commissioners; <br />6 representation from the Latino and/or Karen community; request by Member Kennedy <br />7 that speakers be Roseville residents and clarification by Ms. Curti that various ethnicities <br />8 were representing those living, working or attending school in Roseville. <br />9 <br />TO Member Kennedy reiterated her request that speakers represent the community's broad <br />11 diversity, beyond ethnicity. <br />12 <br />13 Planning Committee members asked that suggestions be provided to the Planning <br />14 Committee for consideration. Ms. McKenzie advised that a written report will be e- <br />15 mailed to HRC members following the next Planning Committee meeting, to provide an <br />16 update on planning and speaker selections, for review at the September HRC meeting. <br />17 <br />18 Discussion included timing of speakers. <br />19 <br />20 Chair Singleton. thanked the. Planning Committee for their work. <br />21 <br />22 III. Discussion of Reorganization of Commission -,new chair and members, strategic <br />23 plan and goal setting - in preparation for September meeting with City Council <br />24 Member Yates provided a bench handout dated August 11, 2009, with suggested <br />25 language to revise the HRC's Strategic Plan to incorporate new ordinance language <br />26 regarding the purpose and duties of the HRC. <br />27 <br />28 Members Yates and Grefenberg had worked on the language and recommended deleting <br />29 the "Police-Civilian Review Commission" section of the Strategic Plan, and replace it <br />30 with the proposed language: <br />31 Fostering community through inclusive, welcoming, responsive neighborhoods <br />32 and city government <br />33 A) Develop a process to assess city government activities, programs and services for <br />34 accessibility so that city activities, programs and services may be understandable <br />35 and responsive to a diverse citizenry. <br />36 B) Develop a process to monitor statistical and other data trends. Use, the <br />37 information to create a set of recommendations for the City Council. The purpose <br />38 of the set of recommendations is to encourage mutual understanding among our <br />39 citizens about the community's diversity. <br />40 C) Develop programs and recommendations for the Council to encourage and assist <br />41 in the development of neighborhood groups, forums, and networks in order to <br />42 provide residents with a sense of belonging and facilitate effective citizen <br />43 engagement. <br />44 <br />
