It doesn't matter what job they have and it doesn't matter if their <br />dad drives a junlcer or a Corvette. It hurts to have someone treat you mean, or <br />constantly put you down and malce you feel small. When people are used to <br />seeing discrimination they don't notice it as much. It's wrong to have different <br />ways of treating people based on their race. <br />In the town of Bemidji, Minnesota, my mom saw discrimination that <br />made her feel sicic. In 1981, she was assigned by the US. Public Health Service <br />to worlc on the Red Lalce Indian reservation. My mom was one of a dozen white <br />people that lived in a government housing complex on the reservation. She <br />had just moved in, and needed to buy groceries. She drove 35 miles to Bemidji, <br />which had the closest supermarlcet. As she waited in line for the lady in front <br />of her to pay, she heard the cashier gruffly aslc the woman for her driver's <br />license. The woman was only buying about thirty dollars worth of stuff and <br />wanted to write a checic. The cashier glared at the picture on the license and <br />then at the lady. Then, the cashier aslced the woman for another form of ID. <br />Finally, she accepted the woman's checic snatching it angrily out of her hands. <br />My moms groceries cost about $150. When she went to pay with a checic she <br />got her drivers license ready, rhinki.ng she would have to show her id too. The <br />
