Brooke Nelson
Paz'kview
Ms. Black
Honorable Mention
Essay: What Action Can You Take Against Discrimination?
Discrimination: to distinguish someone and have a grudge against that
person for an unjust reason. This gruesome behavior seems to have become
such a part of American culhre that we have grown accustomed to it, letting
it pass as normal. The fact of the matter is, however, that discrimination is
wrong and harmful. We, as American Citizens, need to take the appropriate
steps to stand strong against the madness of discrimination and start moving
America forward, away from this elevating problem.
The issue of discrimination has become so out of control that people
have had to fear for their lives as a result of it. Martin Luther King was an
abolitionist who fought for the Civil Rights of African Americans. This
marvelous man was shot in the head while stepping out on a balcony in
preparation for a speech to encourage others to help the poor. Isn't America
supposed to be the country that is equal and just? What is just about lilling
a man who devoted his entire life to seeking equal treatment for every race?
In the late 1500's, Native American people were forced off the land that they
had called home for many years and onto reservations. They were confined
to the Black Hills of South Dakota. This land was inadequate and could not
be utilized for the necessities of life and many Native Americans died.
