These innocent people were basically stripped of everything they owned <br />because someone with 'white sl�in' thought they were superior to everyone <br />else. Discrimination, however, is not only a problem from the past but is also <br />very present. Civilians are being killed in Iraq at this very moment in time <br />because they may seem suspicious or may be in the general vicinity of a <br />suspected terrorist. Iranian or Arab-Americans are being scrutinized because <br />their accent or color of sl�in suggests that they may have been involved in <br />the September 11 rh attacks. Again I ask, what is just about these situations? <br />It is said that history is prone to repeat itself. If this is true, we need to <br />break that cycle and stand up for what is right so that all people are treated <br />fairly in the present and future. The Declaration of Independence states; <br />"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all m�n are created equal, that <br />they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that <br />among these are Life, Libe1-ty and the pursuit of Happiness." If these truths <br />are so evident, how can manl�ind turn a blind eye to discrin�ina�ian that <br />occurs everyday? <br />Discrimination is frequently classified as solely racism, but actually, <br />there are �nany types of discrimination. Humans are discriminated against <br />because of their gender, interests, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, <br />social status or class. They could be distinguished as rich, poor, weak or <br />
