Memo Via Email
To: Dennis Welsch, Roseville Community Development Director
From: Steve Dorff, Meritex Enterprises
Re: Merite IUP 2 year Truck Parking Proposal and SafetylSecurity Plan
Date: Augustl2, 2005
On Thursday August '' Steve orFf of Mentex, John Loftus and Rick Mathwig of Roseville, Tom
Quinlan and Chris Peterson from Dedicated Logistics met at the site of the proposed semi-trailer
parking lot. Tom presented a response to the issues raised by John and Rick. Tom's response
and the ensuing discussion are recapped below:
1. As to driving lanes; An 8 trailer demonstration was provided. Rick and John were
satisfied with the arrangement.
2. All parties felt that a fence was not beneficial in this instance. As a matter of fact, the
fence would be harmful by causing a delay in emergency response and operating the
gates may affect traffic on Walnut. Also due to the fact that Meritex has a 24 hour guard
and Dedicated Logistics would be doing yard checks and periodic trailer repositioning,
festering problems would be noticed before they became a big problem. Dedicated has
parked these trailers in the Twin Lakes area for over five years without serious problems.
3. In response to the concern over items stored in trailers, Tom reported that less than 50
trailers would contain any items at all. Of the 50 most would be office and shop materials
from Dedicated Logistics operations. No hazardous materials would be stored here.
4. Dedicated Logistics will have a written inventory of the contents of any trailer.
5. Access would not be an issue if there were no fence
6. The 24 hour contact would be Chris Peterson 651-324-4435; Tom Quinlan 612-810.
4288; Tom Wintz 612-865-3103; Meri#ex security 651-855-9655.
7. All trailers will have current licenses and be roadworthy for Dedicated Logistics
customers.
8. No hazardous materials will be stored here.
9. Due to the configuration of the lot John and Rick felt that additional lights would cause
more shadows and therefore not help in searching the area if that was needed.
— We believe these responses fulfill the safety concerns of Roseville's authorities. And as a
— result of the meeting, all parties feel that a fence will not serve a useful purpose. We request
— that the interim use permit be amended to eliminate the fencing requirement for the two year
period.
Thanks for your assistance. Please advise if further information is required.
