Discussion included whether or not it was more feasible to pursue the A-frame for future cost-savings and on-going maintenance; pressure testing; drain and check valve operation; no anticipated or potential unknowns that may cause repair costs to exceed the Guidant donation of $500,000; and grand re- opening scheduling. �. Consider Renaming the John Rose Minnesota OVAL Parks and Recreation Director Brokke provided background on user groups, and interest of Guidant Corporation employees, work of the City's OVAL Task Force; and detailed the contribution with funding for immediate repairs and enhancements of the facility, and a$500,000 Endowment Fund set up, with a dollar-for-dollar match campaign by Guidant for public participation through December 31,2005. Mr. Brokke reviewed the City's policy for renaming City Facilities; noted the support of the family of the late Representative John Rose; and recommendations of the Parks and Recreation Commission and Friends of the OVAL Foundation. Staff recommended renaming of the "John Rose Minnesota OVAL" to the "Guidant John Rose Minnesota OVAL," in an effort to recognize the significant contributions of the Guidant Foundation. Discussion included ordering of the names in the proposed renaming; matching grant contribution campaign to-date; initial user group contributions and matching funds; and potential grand re-opening scheduled for November 19,2005.
