Mr. Anderson noted that it was hard for <br />staff to advise them without the organization making an effort to <br />contact and work with the City. <br />14. Discuss North Suburban Chamber of Commerce One-Year <br />Membership <br />Councilmember Kough opined his support of a one-year <br />membership in the North Suburban Chamber of Commerce, <br />noting their practice of not endorsing political candidates. <br />Kough moved, Schroeder seconded, approval of a one year <br />membership in the North Suburban Chamber of Commerce. <br />John Kysylyczyn, 3080 N Victoria Street <br />Mr. Kysylyczyn opined that, in his conversations adjoining <br />northern suburbs, the North Suburban Chamber of Commerce <br />did in fact involve themselves in political endorsements on a <br />local and legislative issue. Mr. Kysylyczyn further opined that <br />the organization be further investigated related to their political <br />interests; and questioned whether taxpayer monies should be <br />used (i,e., membership dues) for campaign contributions. Mr. <br />Kysylyczyn suggested additional written confirmation and <br />information be obtained from the organization prior to action. <br />Councilmember Kough offered an amendment to his motion to <br />require a written confirmation. <br />Councilmember Schroeder spoke in opposition to the motion. <br />Mayor Klausing spoke in opposition to the motion, opining that <br />he was less concerned about any political action committees, <br />which normally operated separate from the organization; but was <br />more concerned with the overall budget constraints faced by the <br />City Council, and questioned whether the Council needed to <br />have a broader policy discussion as to the value of inemberships <br />in various organizations (i.e., RCLLG; LMC; NLC). <br />Councilmember Ihlan, while stating she was not opposed to <br />membership, sought clarification as to the political activities and <br />Discuss North <br />Suburban <br />Chamber of <br />Commerce One- <br />Year Membership <br />
