3. Keepin currentwith technoloychanges
We try to take advantage of technology to make our workforce more effective and efficient. We will need
resources to keep current with the pace of change.
4. The expanded and remodeled space for maintenance material storase/stains
While the location of Public Works facility is ideal to deploy our crews around the City, the space for staging and
stockpilingmaterials is minimal.
5. Trail fundin to complete svstem plan
Over the years we hae been developingpathways along major roads and within city parks. We receive many
requests to etend this pathway networkbut do not hae sufficientfunding to program these requests.
6. Buildin facilities manaement/maintenance
Establishing routine maintenance will etend the life of our facilities. We need to develop a plan, to etend the
useful life of our facilities and facility systems.
OPPORTUNITIES
1. Sharing/ coonerationwith other iurisdictions
Many otherjurisdictions are eperiencing the same budgetary concerns that we are. Otherjurisdictions hae the
same servicesthat we do. We can work with our neighboring cities, county and state agencies to pool our
resources to address some of our service needs.
Attrition of staff onening door to more technolosy
Over the next few years there will be retirements in our workforce. When we review the vacant positions, we can
seek candidates with complimentary skills.
3. Grants, cost sharinwith or from other aencies
There are many grant opportunities aailable to government agencies. Otherjurisdictions provide similar services
and oversight and are under like budget constraints. In order to fund esting or new programs, we can look at
eploring a11 funding opportunities.
4. Lon-termwater contractor other source
We are negotiating our water supply contract with St. Paul Water to ensure a safe, superior, reliable supply for
many years to come.
5. Tap retired communitv to assist in cleanup effort
There is an increased epectation that we more actively maintain our right- of- ways. We could take advantage of
Roseville's aging demographics and develop a volunteer program for retirees where they would adopt areas of the
City to clean up.
6. More nublic educationregarding citv services/levels
Satisfaction with city servicesbegins with good communication and education about what we do and offer.
7. Fundin onnortunities — fees, utilities
Future challenges may require broadening our funding toolbox.
8. Traffic conestion is a statewide concern.
Because this is a regional issue we can take advantage of news coverage to educate the public on the issues facing
the City of Roseville. We need to work closely with regional and state government to epand the transportation
network while protecting Roseville as a destination with good access, rather than a pass-through city. We need to
work cooperatively to develop transit hubs within Roseville.
