Special Joint Study Session: Roseville Citizen Commission Chairs, Department Heads, City Council <br />Saturday, 02/07/04, Harriet Alexander Nature Center, 2520 North Dale Street, Roseville, MN <br />DRAFT Discussion Notes - Page 18 <br />Mr. Majerus concurred and noted that the commission Chair <br />meetings allowed a great opportunity to avoid overlapping <br />of services, and allowed the advisory groups to move <br />together in cooperative efforts. <br />Mr. Mulder also concurred, noting that when the Planning <br />Commission heard a housing project, it affected the HRA, <br />and dialogue needed to ensue regarding how the two <br />commissions could inter-relate and receive addirional <br />education from each other. <br />Thelma McKenzie, Chair of the Human Rights <br />Commission <br />Ms. McKenzie enthusiastically supported today's format <br />and the opportunity to share ideas. Ms. McKenzie south <br />clarification from Mr. Welsch on his list of weaknesses or <br />threats regarding potential failure of the Applewood Pointe <br />proj ect. <br />Mr. Welsch clarified the notation, in consideration of <br />potential market failures, or if they were marketed to the <br />wrong people, a possible traumatic national event, and other <br />possibilities; and potential ramifications to the HRA and the <br />City. <br />Ms. McKenzie addressed several housing issues from the <br />Human Rights perspective. Ms. McKenzie discussed <br />housing issues related to School District employees, and <br />why teachers of color didn't have longevity in the District. <br />Mr. Maj erus concurred with Ms. McKenzie's concerns, <br />questioning what the community provided people of <br />color {i.e., housing, jobs, ethnicity issues). <br />Ms. McKenzie reviewed the Human Rights Commissions' <br />attempts to personalize communication and market/support <br />people of color (i.e., housing, shopping, map of the City; <br />welcome to the community; highlighting areas of interest <br />in the community) that are provided to new teachers. <br />
