Special Joint Study Session: Roseville Citizen Commission Chairs, Department Heads, City Council <br />Saturday, 02/07/04� Harriet Alexander Nature Center, 2520 North Dale Street, Roseville, MN <br />DRAFT Discussion Notes - Page 19 <br />Ms. McKenzie further addressed the need to review <br />demographics, such as that provided by the Planning <br />Commission today, and determine how to promote <br />intercultural harmony. Ms. McKenzie opined the best <br />way is to encourage one-on-one interaction. <br />Mr. Majerus noted the overlapping of efforts and <br />continued need to communication among commissions, <br />particularly with marketing materials. <br />Ms. McKenzie referenced the basic human need to live by <br />the Golden Rule. <br />Mayor Klausing concurred with Ms. McKenzie's <br />comments, referring to past discord among <br />Councilmembers. Mayor Klausing noted the common <br />connection shared by all residents, commissioners, and <br />Councilmembers; and opined his desire to build on that <br />common ground. <br />Councilmember Maschka sought further assistance and <br />comment from Ms. McKenzie and Mr. Majerus, in their <br />work with the advisory commissions, as well as their <br />affiliation with the School Districts, as to whether they had <br />been able to determine why the teachers of color were <br />leaving , and how to intervene and encourage their <br />tenure. <br />Discussion included comments received from teachers and <br />their perceptions, frustrations, and culture linkages. <br />Councilmember Maschka noted that he would suggest <br />another issue would be to meet with the Rosedale <br />business community and attempt to determine the future <br />of where the economy is going, and partnering with <br />them in achieving common goals. <br />Mayor Klausing noted that he was considering creation of a <br />Business Advisory Commission, as a missing component, <br />in the City's advisory commissions, to bring their <br />
