Citv Mana�er Recommendation # 16: To Eliminate the Full Time Custodial Position at the Roseville <br />Skating Center/Harriet Alexander Nature Center <br />Im�act Statements: The Skating Center and the Nature Center require ongoing attention to maintenance <br />and upkeep to remain valuable community resources. To eliminate the custodial duties would jeopardize <br />those efforts. <br />Skating Center S�ecifics: <br />The Skating Center banquet and meeting facilities are unlike other facilities managed by Parks and Recreation. <br />Loss of custodial services at the Skating Center will result in; <br />o No dedicated maintenance service for the banquet/meeting rooms, support areas, hallways and <br />ent�yways, restrooms, game room. <br />o No maintenance service to outdoor areas, parking lots, sidewalks, entrance plazas. Maintenance is <br />required year round and includes snow removal, trash pickup, landscape care. <br />o No custodial service to kitchen area impacting health license and health department criteria. <br />o Inconsistent set-up of rooms for special events, meetings, weddings, gatherings. <br />o The need for part time staff to open and prepare facilities for use during non traditional times <br />o Cost of requiring part time staffto fill in gaps may be increase <br />� Skating Center facilities will become a difficult sell in a very competitive market i f; <br />o the carpet isn't cleaned <br />o the windows aren't washed <br />o the kitchen isn't maintained <br />o the set-up isn't as specified <br />o dedicated attention to detail isn't paid to the overall upkeep. <br />Nature Center S�ecifics: <br />The Nature Center facility is unique in that it is frequently used by children, especiallyyoung children and <br />groups ofpeople, including school classes. Cleaning and maintenance of this facilityrequires special <br />attention being paid to health related areas; <br />Loss of custodial services at the Nature Center will result in; <br />o The need to rely on volunteers to perform daily housekeeping duties. <br />o The need to rely on park staff or volunteers to clear snow and maintain safe entrance and <br />walkways around Center. <br />o The need to rely on park staffto support Center maintenance and custodial needs taking them <br />away from park duties. <br />o The need to contract support for ongoing maintenanceprojects such as floor waxing and sealing, <br />carpet cleaning, window washing (for examples) <br />. Program areas require regular and on-going cleaning to maintain health standards. <br />o floor areas require attention due to the amount of floor sitting taking place. <br />o the interpretive area is a hands-on learning experience with lots of hands touching and exploring. <br />o animals are cared and provided for requiring efforts to not m� animal and people food as well as <br />not using the same area for the preparation of animal and people food. <br />Skatin� Center and Nature Center Combined General: <br />The fulltime Parks and Recreation custodial position is divided between the Skating Center and the <br />Nature Center with on-call service at the Parks and Recreation offices and program spaces at various other <br />facilities. The custodial position is approximately split 20%time at the Nature Center and 80%time at <br />the Skating Center. <br />May incur overtime or additional expenses for custodiaUmaintenance unforeseen maintenance efforts. <br />8 <br />
