City Council Study Session — 08/16/04 <br />DRAFT Minutes - Page 6 <br />Donations, <br />Communications <br />Recess Recess <br />Mayor Klausing recessed the meeting at approximately 6:21 p.m. <br />and reconvened at 6:25 p.m. <br />S.a Recognition of Japanese Home Stay Program Recognition of <br />Mayor Klausing provided a history of the City of Japanese Home <br />Roseville's Sister City Association. Stay Program <br />Yuriko Farmer, Chair of the Sister City Association <br />Ms. Farmer summarized the current visit to Roseville of 10 <br />Japanese students and two teachers who arrived on August <br />7, 2004 for a 10-day stay in Minnesota. Ms. Farmer noted <br />that she had recently assisted in chaperoning four students <br />from Roseville on a cross-cultural, two-week visit to Japan. <br />Ms. Farmer recognized the host families, and thanked them <br />and other chaperones for their kindness and guidance. Ms. <br />Farmer also thanked the City of Roseville Sister City Fund <br />for granting funds to allow participation in this program. <br />Ms. Farmer then turned the podium over to one of the <br />American student recently returned from her Japanese <br />experience. <br />MaryAnne Riley <br />Ms. Riley reviewed her perspective on some of her cultural <br />experiences during her visit to Japan; and thanked the <br />Roseville Sister City program for providing grant funds for <br />her participation. <br />Ms. Farmer then recognized two of the Japanese teachers <br />chaperoning the group of students. <br />Ms. Madoka Endo <br />Ms. Endo, an English teacher from Japan, expressed her <br />appreciation for the program and the host families for their <br />kindnesses. Ms. Endo noted that during the 13 years of the <br />Sister City program, many cross-cultural friendships had <br />been established and deepened, and expressed hope that the <br />
