Roseville City Council
frigeratioa company than the one that is currently under contract to pro-
vide service? The time and money this would entail depends on the scope of
their engagement and how quickly you want such consultants to start and fin-
ish their work.
Second, while the foregoing issues are being analyzed or addressed, what does
Council want staff to do about operating the OVAL? When temperatures
are appropriate this winter we could flood the OVAL floor and maintain a natu-
ral ice surface as best we can. Revenues from user groups would decrease.
Utility operating costs would also decrease.
Another option is to call "time out" and close the OVAL for this season while
staff, Council, and the community take a longer look and thoroughly review all
issues. If at the end of that extended review process the Council finally agrees
upon a repair option for the OVAL, staff could carry out that work in due
course next year and have the OVAL ready for operation next season.
Alternatively, if the Council prefers, staff could try to expedite repairs to both
the OVAL chiller and distribution system. The goal under this option would be
to provide a refrigerated ice surface as soon as possible yet this season.
We look forward to your questions and input at the study session.
Neal Beets
City Manager
