REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />DATE: 7/10/00 <br />ITEM NO: C-1 <br />Department Approval: N nager Reviewed: Agenda Section: Consent <br />Item Description: Acceptance Minnesota ReLeaf -"Oak Wilt Suppression" Grant from DNR <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Parks and Recreation Department has received a grant for funding assistance from <br />Minnesota ReLeaf Oak Wilt Suppression Program in the amount of $5,000. The Oak Wilt <br />Suppression Program provides 50% funding to residents with trees infected by oak wilt. <br />The costs cover the removal and or trenching necessary to control the spread of the oak <br />wilt. The resident is responsible for the remaining fifty percent. The City works with the <br />resident to identify the disease, hires a contractor to perform the services and administers <br />the grant. The $5000 in funding comes from the Minnesota ReLEAF Community Forest <br />Health Program. <br />POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />This proposal is consistent with the City's Street Tree Master and Forestation Plan. <br />FINANCIAL IMPLICATION <br />There is no direct City funding required. The City works with the resident to identify the <br />disease, hires a contractor to perform the services and administers the grant. Individual <br />residences provide the remaining 50% of the cost. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends the acceptance of funding assistance to aid in the elimination of Oak <br />Wilt disease in the City of Roseville. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion authorizing the acceptance of a grant from the Minnesota ReLeaf Oak Wilt <br />Suppression Program for $5,000 with no cash matching requirements from the City of <br />Roseville. The City works with the resident to identify the disease, hires a contractor to <br />perform the services and administers the grant. Individual residences provide the <br />remaining 50% of the cost. <br />
