Klllogp 91vd.
220 Ramsey County Courthouse
St. Paul, MN 55102 F'-
Re: Pedestrian S8f91y: Acorn PBrk Access and County Road C
Dear Commissioner WfSBner:
Knowing your commitment to Ramsey County and Roseviiie neighborhoods, I would like to
share with you my interest in assisting you to make improvements to the County Road C
crosswalk at Gaitier Street to Acorn Pstk. I have express similar concerns to Roseville Council
Member John OAd9k8.
Yesterday was a loveiy Easter Sunday: And it nearly ended in a tragedy for two young girls
trying to cross County Road C8 they returned home after spending time playing tennis in
Acorn Park. My m&her-in-law, my husband and I, along with our two small children, were a15o
returning to our home when we witnessed several cars barreling down on the young tennis
players. The screeching tires and close call as the cars barely avoided running these kids down
was enough to cause me to promise my5elf I will never let my daughters go the block and a half
to Acorn Park unattended when they are presumably old enough. The girls I watch as they
were prBCtic.alty mowed down by racing C3tS were young teens; old enough to go somewhere
with a buddy and to follow t►fiiC laws. By the way, they were lawfully crossing in a marked
pedestrian crosswalk.
A few safety measures may reduce the potential danger all people face as they try to cross a
road to use a wonderful RoSAville amenity. Some simple enhancements may afford enough
protections to enhance safety without impeding the flow of traffic. They may also serve to better
protect residents of Ramsey County -just like these young people who came insanely IoSe to
a t r a g e d y.
My request for improvements simpiy may indude a can of paint, a few signs and a couple of
light bulbs and bttetteS. 'T'11 following are my ideas.
1. Mark the road several hundred feet before the crosswalk with a warning to the driver
that the pedestrian crossing is approaching. I know this can be done, I've seen it in
other communities and it realty is not very much different than the prior warnings are
one is sppro8chin9 a train crossing.
