Mr. Trudgeon stated that the selection committee chose Stephen Bubul of Kennedy <br />and Graven to serve as the RHRA Attorney. <br />Motion: Member Maschka moved, seconded by Member Tracy to authorize the HRA Executive <br />Director and HRA Chairman to enter into a contract with Kennedy and Graven for Attorney <br />services for 2009, based upon the interview panel’s recommendation. <br />Ayes: 5 <br />Nays: 0 <br />Motion carried. <br />9.Information Reports & Other Business (Verbal Reports by Staff and Board Members) <br />a.Discuss Home and Garden Fair <br />Housing Coordinator provided an update on the upcoming fair; and distributed a sign-up sheet <br />for members to participate in manning the HRA booth at the fair. Ms. Kelsey noted that the <br />City Council had been solicited for shifts to man the recycling booth; and further advised that <br />Mr. Trudgeon would be at the HRA booth throughout the day; and that she would be attending <br />to the logistics during the event. <br />Ms. Kelsey advised that staff had been working diligently to get marketing materials together; <br />with the brochure undergoing its final edits and was now at the printer. Ms. Kelsey advised <br />that an insert in the Roseville Review, reaching over 17,000 homes in Roseville, in addition to <br />portions of surrounding and adjacent suburbs; along with take home backpack materials being <br />provided for 5,000 children in the Roseville School District. Ms. Kelsey advised that staff was <br />coordinating with the Mounds View School District to coordinate similar backpack materials <br />with them for their students. <br />Ms. Kelsey advised that people were getting excited about the show; and noted that the <br />marketing materials were intended as a permanent marketing brochure, providing contact <br />information for vendors and sponsors, to allow networking after the fair. <br />Ms. Kelsey noted that the brochures were being printed on 50% recycled paper produced in <br />MN in keeping with the green element. <br />Ms. Kelsey advised that this year’s fair was short only five (5) exhibitors from past years; but <br />noted that the Living Smarter theme had broadened the meaning of the fair in the community; <br />and provided more opportunities to fill booth vacancies. Ms. Kelsey advised that they had <br />received ten (10) sponsors; with a total of sixty-nine (69) booths, including public booths as <br />well. Ms. Kelsey advised that, in this difficult economy, this was a good indicator of interest <br />in the event. <br />Mr. Trudgeon recognized the 24/7 efforts of Ms. Kelsey and Kara Hoier in making people <br />aware of the event; and looked forward to this year’s fair serving as a springboard for future <br />years <br />Member Pust also thanked Ms. Kelsey for her work, and questioned the availability of any <br />particular non-profits that would use the remaining five (5) booths. <br />Ms. Kelsey advised that they had been able to reduce exhibitor fees by half for non-profits for <br />the event, including a community-supported agriculture booth. Ms. Kelsey noted the limited <br />budgets for non-profits, and staff’s care to ensure they were involved, while keeping the <br />event’s fees comparable to similar fairs.
