HRA Meeting <br />Minutes – Tuesday, March 31, 2009 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br /> <br />8.Recognitions <br />  <br /> <br /> <br />a.Resolution of Appreciation for 2008 Home and Garden Fair Sponsors and Volunteers <br />  <br />Executive Director Patrick Trudgeon – formally recognized sponsors and volunteered who <br /> <br />participated in the 2009 Roseville Home and Garden Fair, <br /> <br /> <br />Motion: Member Majerus moved, seconded by Member Elkins adopted Resolution No. <br /> <br />34 entitled, “Resolution of Appreciation for Sponsors and Volunteers of the 2009 Living <br /> <br />Smarter Homes and Garden Fair.” <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Ayes: 7 <br /> <br />  <br />Nays: 0 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />  <br /> <br /> <br />9.Presentations <br /> <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />10.Action Items <br /> <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />11.Information Reports & Other Business (Verbal Reports by Staff and Board Members) <br />  <br />attached hereto and made a part <br />Various materials were distributed by staff as bench handouts, <br /> <br /> <br />thereof. <br />  <br />a.Home and Garden Fair <br />  <br />Executive Director Patrick Trudgeon expressed appreciation to Housing Coordinator Jeanne <br />  <br />Kelsey and staff for this year’s efforts and rebranding of the Home and Garden Fair and the <br />  <br />new theme for living smarter and greener. <br />  <br />  <br />Staff reported on the recycling efforts with 95% of materials recycled and/or composted from <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />the day; comments and support of those attending for the greener and sustainability theme; <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />vendor comments on more professional materials and advertising; the steady attendance <br /> <br />  <br />through the day; and networking and connecting among vendors, sponsors and community <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />participants and attendees. <br /> <br />  <br /> <br /> <br />Discussion included positive comments of the City Council related to the event; incentives and <br /> <br /> <br />comments of vendors on the event; revised surveying and registration of attendees to provide <br /> <br /> <br />more comment (13 comments from 2008 versus 130 comments in 2009); satisfaction of the <br /> <br /> <br />food vendor with this year’s turnout; positive comments from attendees about the healthier <br /> <br /> <br />choices of food choices; much support for the recyclable aspects; distribution of all 100 <br /> <br /> <br />recycling bins; parking and weather-related issues; and favorable comments of vendors for a <br /> <br /> <br />longer day and timing of the event to not conflict with other northern-metropolitan fairs that <br />  <br />they also like to attend. <br /> <br /> <br />  <br />Considerations for next year include starting workshops earlier in the morning to provide <br />  <br />better initial attendance. <br />  <br />  <br />Staff advised that the City website was keeping the information before the public, including <br />  <br />photos from this year’s event; and intent to set a date for 2010 now. <br />  <br /> <br /> <br />Further discussion included consensus of Commissioners that staff did a great job on this <br /> <br /> <br />year’s event; not to schedule the Roseville fair at the same time as the North Suburban Home <br />  <br />& Garden Fair (for the cities of New Brighton, Fridley and Blaine); direct links on the City <br /> <br /> <br />website to sponsors of the event, as well as keeping the brochure on the website to link vendors <br />  <br />for public information. <br /> <br /> <br />
