RICE STREET/HIGHWAY 36 INTERCHANGE STl1DY
~~Ell'SLETTER.ISSUE:
~i~~~' ~nnt;
What is the preferred alternative?
The preferred alternative proposes
reconstruction of the existing diamond
interchange at Highway 36 and Rice Street to
an offset single point diamond interchange.
The existing bridge over Highway 36 will
be replaced with three bridges far the new
interchange,
This alternative also includes improvements
to the Rice Street corridor between CR B and
CR 62. This includes approximately 3,900
feet of Rice Street being reconstructed from a
three-lane section to a four-lane section with
right- and left-turn lanes at major intersections,
sidewalk, on-street bike access, signals, and
street lighting. Stormwater and drainage
improvements also are included to achieve
watershed standards.
Why was this alternative celected?
Uased on the detailed traffic analysis and open
house input, the Project Management Team (PMTI
selected the offset single point as the preferred
alternative to be carried forward for further review.
This alternative was selected because it:
• Provides the best long-term traffic
operations and improves intersection
spacing
Does the best job of accommodating
bicycles and pedestrians by providing
standard geometry and signalized
protection for all crossings
• Allows far maintaining traffic during
construction
Is most compatible with plans for
future park-and-ride alternatives along
Rice Street south of TH 36
~JNNES~S^ ~ /
~~ ~ ^~® IGmley-Fbm
Pro ~ert Partners: = ,~- ^ d~~ ~ ~~
~ _~~,,,,~~ ;~_•,i.~-'~`~'~~:°i'. ~~~.711~I7~~ ~ andA~sodates,lnc.
~:.~>~

i
-- _-
