April 13, 2010 Item 3. b Program Planners Subcommittee Project Planners Report Prepared April 2, 2010 Attendees: Gary Grefenberg and Marie Oftelie The Project Planners sub-committee met twice last month, on March 15 and March 29. March 15, we finalized an acceptance agreement draft for the Bremer grant we received last January. FYI, it is included in the packet for the April 13 RHRC meeting. March 29, we considered the following agenda items: 1. Draft a recommendation on soliciting volunteers for HRC committees and projects. We discussed some possible approaches, including using the City web site, as the Planning Commission already does. See Gary's draft attached to the April 13 RHRC meeting packet for this subcommittee's initial recommendation. 2. Discuss the types of volunteers/resources that might broaden this subcommittee's civic engagement project. (We also discussed finding additional resources in general.) - We agreed there is a need to cultivate new resources to add to existing ones such as the League of Women Voters. - We think this sub-committee (Project Planners) would be more effective with an additional resource from our ranks. Is anyone interested? - Gary is developing a list of publications and organizations that have been recommended as possible resources. . 3. Decide what we mean by "civic engagement." Once we have a common understanding of what this entails, we'll be able to make better progress. We need more input. Other commissioners: send us your ideas. 4. Begin drafting the work plan for the civic engagement project. Subcommittee members had different ideas, but found areas of common agreement. We hope to have something for the commission's consideration at the May meeting.
