BWSR Meeting Minutes <br />Apri122, 1998 <br />Page Three <br />we're only six months away from having to have a biennial budget in place for the next <br />legislative biennium. Ron thanked staff for their assistance throughout the legislative session. <br />Dispute Resolution Committee -Chair Roer, on behalf of Marv Tripp, stated that an appeal has <br />been received from the DNR regarding an LGU decision in Scott County. <br />Education and Public Relations Committee -Barb Uppgaard reported that the committee has a <br />draft education strategy which Susan Tsakakis will present to the board later in the meeting. <br />Cost-Share/Soil Conservation Committee -Dwain Otte stated that feedlot dollars is an issue, Ron <br />will cover this later in the meeting. <br />Wetlands Committee - Darrell. Bruggman reported that the wetlands committee met today, they <br />will present their recommendation later in the meeting. <br />Agency Reports <br />Jim Anderson, Minnesota Extension Service (MES), reported that the MES/BWSR southern <br />education position was offered to an individual, but the person declined the position. Jim met <br />with Barb Luikkenon, Jim Birkholz and Bruce Sandstrom yesterday to discuss the southern <br />education position as well as the metro education position... Both of these positions will be <br />pursued and filled as soon as possible. Jim offered the assistance of MES on the CREP <br />phosphorus issue. Jim reported that a nationwide satellite conference was held to discuss the <br />process of issues and concerns for waste water treatment systems. MES will be providing <br />information on the waste water systems as it becomes available. <br />Mark Dittrich, Department of Agriculture (MDA), reported that MDA is working with Doug <br />Thomas on research and development of the educational portion of the agricultural drainage <br />project. Mark reported that MDA is working with DNR on a wetland issue at the Waseca <br />Agricultural Experiment Station. Mark reported that MDA received $9 million for the <br />Agricultural Best l~fanagement Practices loan fund. Mark stated that the ditch/drainage the <br />House File number is 3882. <br />Kelli Johnson, Department of Health (MDH), reported that staff from MDH and PCA have been <br />meeting to discuss the deformed frog issue which is an ongoing activity.. Kelli stated that MDH <br />is involved in food safety issues, particularly irradiation of beef. She stated that Golden Plump <br />tivill sponsor a grilled chicken food safety day on May 1. Kelli reported that the Food Code <br />hearing will be held the first week of May. She wished everyone a "Happy Earth Day!" <br />Rod Sando, Department of Natural Resources (DNR}, reported that DNR had a very successful <br />bonding bill, the largest they have ever received! Rod reported that DNR received funding for <br />
