Other committee assignments <br />included Agriculture and Rural Devel- <br />opment, Government Operations and <br />r <br />I <br />Steve Morse, Deputy Commissioner of the <br />Department of Natural Resources. <br />Veterans, Health and Family Security, <br />and State Government Finance com- <br />mittees. Steve Morse also served as <br />chair of the Legislative Commission on <br />Minnesota Resources (LCMR} from <br />1995-1997. <br />A native of Dakota, Minnesota, Morse <br />attended the University of Wisconsin at <br />LaCrosse, the University of Minnesota <br />and Michigan State University. Morse <br />has received a number of awards <br />including The Nature Conservancy <br />Government Relations Award, the <br />Minnesota Environmental Health <br />Association Merit Award, Sierra Club <br />Environmentalist of the Year, lzaalc <br />Walton League's Sigurd F. Olson <br />Conservation award and the DNR <br />Meritorious Service Award. <br />jai s i eisaive essi® <br />The 1999 Legislative Session adjourned on Monday, May 17th at 12:00 midnight <br />after a flurry of last minute maneuvering and votes on important budget and tax <br />legislation. Even though Governor Ventura indicated a day after the close of <br />session he didn't see anything in the last minute bills that were passed that were <br />candidates for his veto pen, he did line-item veto the $1.375 Lazarus Creek <br />funding in the bonding bill. According to the Governor's veto message, Lazarus <br />Creek was not an emergency and should await consideration until the 2000 <br />legislative session. Area 2/Lac Qui Parle WD are obviously disappointed by this <br />veto. <br />Special thanks to Senator Dallas Sams, Senator Michelle Fischbach, Rep. Doug <br />Stang, and Rep. Mary Ellen Otremba for authoring the Sauk River and North <br />Fork-Crow River Watershed District's levy legislation. <br />r. Thanks also to Rep. Tim Finseth and Sen.
