BWSR tVleeting Minutes <br />June 29, 2000 <br />Page Three <br />Cost-Share/Soil Conservation Committee -Dwain Otte reported that the FY01 grant <br />allocations are on the agenda later in the meeting. <br />Education/Public Relations Committee -Ginny Imholte reported that the Education <br />Committee meeting minutes are in board members' packet. Ginny stated that the <br />minutes are also located on the BWSR website. Ginny suggested updating the BWSR <br />website. Ron Harnack stated that the BWSR webpage will soon be updated. <br />Agency Reports <br />Mark Dittrich- Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) reported that MDA is <br />involved in research with the U of M/Extension Service Research and Outreach Center, <br />working on a work plan. Mark reported that MDA just received funding from the <br />Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for a project with the PCA for improvement of <br />water quality. Mark stated that the Field Day in Morris will be held on July 13. Mark <br />reported that the Memo of Understanding with MDA, the Association of Minnesota <br />Counties (AMC), and PCA regarding dairy feedlots continues. <br />Wayne Edgerton, Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reported that the Diary Tour <br />was held last week in Nerstrand, great weather and good attendance; Dwain Otte and <br />Jack Frost attended. DNR has had an internal change--Roger Holmes has retired, his <br />position as Fish and Wildlife Director was eliminated. Wayne stated that director <br />positions were given to Ecological Services, Wildlife, and Fisheries. Wayne reported <br />that DNR is funding $500,000 to $600,000 for the CREP marketing positions, to <br />promote CREP with landowners. The positions will be located in SWCD offices and <br />work closely with the districts on CREP. Wayne stated that a meeting with districts, <br />DNR and BWSR will be held July 7 at the Pizza Ranch in Redwood Falls to layout the <br />process. Wayne announced that he will be providing half of his time to BWSR working <br />on the CREP effort; he will continue to work half-time with DNR. Wayne will attend the <br />national Farm Bill conference on July 9-10 in Washington, D.C. <br />Jim Anderson, Minnesota Extension Service (MES), reported that Jerry Miller, College <br />of Agriculture, is retiring effective June 30. Jerry's replacement is Mike Schmidt, soil <br />scientist with the Soil, Water, and Climate Department. Jim reported that MES is <br />shifting the way they do programming, trying to do a better job in the agency to work on <br />soil and water issues. Jim stated that a team of people in Lumberton, Waseca, and the <br />St. Paul Campus will be working on drainage issues with MDA. <br />
