bask ~: e~~~°®ne curr~~~ aid hl~~~~°~ca~ ~at~r ~ua~cty ~®~d~~i®n~
expected C®st: $2,020
To determine the current and historical water quality conditions in Lake Owasso, Barr
proposes to:
® Compile and evaluate all available historical water quality monitoring data
collected through the Citizen Assisted Monitoring Program (CAMP) and Ramey
County Public Works (RCPW)
® Conduct Ail In-Lake Water Quality Data Collection Program for Lake Owasso
from May through September, 2007
Historical water quality data collected by the RCPW staff typically includes more
rigorous in-lake water quality collection program than CAMP. This information
will also be useful in the in-lake modeling part of this project, as it would shed
light on the magnitude of any internal phosphorus load the lake may have.
Terry Noonan, RCPW, has indicated that they plan to continue in-lake water
quality monitoring for Lake Owasso during May through September 2007.
Therefore the proposed budget provided excludes costs for in-lake water quality
monitoring. RCPW monitoring program includes the following:
- Monitoring at the deepest point(s) in Lake Owasso
- Chlorophyll a
- Conductivity
- Temperature
- pH
- Dissolved Oxygen (D.O.)
- Secchi Disc Transparency (S.D.)
- Alkalinity
- Hardness
- Total Phosphorus (TP)
- Soluble Reactive Phosphorus (SRP)
- Chloride
Conduct trend analyses of phosphorus and chlorophyll a concentrations in Lake
Owasso, as well as Secchi Disc measurements, using available historical and 2007
water quality data.
Collect, review and evaluate existing macrophyte data for Lake Owasso, as
reported in past surveys from RWMWD, RCPW, and Osgood.
Review and analyze historic zooplankton data to determine if recently observed
declines in water transparencies are related to a loss of grazing species that may
have previously found refuge from predation in aquatic plant beds. Dr. Joseph
Shapiro Emeritus Professor of Linmolo~y -University of Minnesota, has agreed
to assist Barr En~ineerin~ in this activity, and to make feasible lake water quality
mana,~ement recom>nendations that seem to him to be appropriate for inclusion in
Barr's Lake Owasso diagnostic-feasibility (UAA) report.
P:hvr\13\pip\2006\6069 -Lake Owasso\Lake_Owasso_UAA_Scope_Final_Jan 12 07.doc
