Immediately following the installation, staffreceived two phone calls from residents on Albert
Street concerned that parking would move to their street. We have observed four to five cars that
have moved to Albert Street near Sextant Avenue. There has been an increase in parking on
Grandview Avenue east of Lexington Avenue since the installation. Up to 20 vehicles have been
observed. I am not aware of any complaints from the Grandview Avenue residents. Parking is not
allowed on the north side of Grandview in front of the single-family homes.
Two additional requests for No Parking During School Hours wexe received from residents on
Albert Street near Sextant Avenue in early October. It is somewhat unclear what impact cold
weather will have on students' willingness to walk long distances to the high school, as the weather
has been quite mild to date.
Policy Objectives: It has been our practice in addressing neighborhood parking restrictions, to
ask the City Council to consider the request and pass no parking resolutions on a case by case
basis.
RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION:
Approval of the attached resolution prohibiting parking during school hours on Sextant Avenue
from Hamline Avenue to Holton Street, on Sheldon Street from Sextant Avenue to Brooks
Avenue, and on Albert Street from Sextant Avenue to a point 300 feet north.
Prepared by: Duane Schwartz
