(65 1) 490-293 1 RE: Request for Variance — Stair Guard Gaps Radisson Hotel Roseville Dear Mr. Loftus; I �� � � ,�� As I mentioned last week in our conversation, the State Fire Marshal Division has documented that our existing e�t stair guards are not in compliance with current standards. They have requested that we correct the gap between guards to 4 inches from 9 inches. We are opposed to this request and wish to pursue a variance. Pursuant to the state's instructions on a Request for Variance, we must first submit a request to the appropriate governing body, the City of Roseville. Therefore I would ask that you submit a request for variance to the Roseville City Council on our behalf so that we can subsequently submit the local variance in our State Requestfor Variance. As we discussed, the e�t stair guards did meet all applicable standards and requirements in effect on the date they were installed. We believe that these new standards should not apply to our situation since we neither modified these stair guards nor renovated these areas. During our recent renovations we did comply with all other items noted by the State Fire Marshall including panic hardware, fire caulking corridors to the ceiling, double-key deadbolts, laundry chute sprinklers, signage and many other issues at consider cost. Many of these items had not been previously noted on past inspection reports; however, most of these modifications were in areas being renovated or updated. We have only received one cost estimate on this item in question, and frankly consider it an undue hardship at $30,000. As you are aware, the recent events surrounding the 9(11/O1 have dealt the hospitality industry a serious blow and asking us to make these modifications is e�traordinary.
