City Council Minutes — <br />O1/28/02 Page 7 <br />volunteer firefighter, and his sadness at being restricted <br />from accessing Roseville fire stations. <br />Mike Hermes, resident, spoke about the fire at this <br />townhome, how to accommodate the need for <br />camaraderie, and the meaning of retirement. <br />Jim Schneider, active firefighter, spoke about open doors <br />in fire stations, vendors having access to fire stations, <br />and no work on cars other than Car,washing. <br />, <br />Retiree Alan Carrier spoke about his+ sadness at having <br />his access to fire stations restricted, at how only ten <br />retirees would probably want code access, and how <br />security is enhanced by having retirees at stations. <br />Chief Gasaway followed-up: he showed a survey of <br />retiree access policies from other metro communities and <br />commented on access to secured facilities. <br />Maschka asked about the City's liability for personal <br />injuries to visiting retirees, and worker's compensation <br />liability. <br />Kysylyczyn spoke about the differences between the fire <br />department and other city departments, and the history of <br />this issue. <br />Beets suggested that we get � jQlilt; .meeting together of <br />active firefighters and retirees tti't`ry to resolve this issue. <br />Kough commented that he disagreed; he was <br />comfortable with the current motion to adopt a <br />Resolution. <br />Schroeder asked that we give the parties a chance to <br />resolve this matter. � <br />Terry Moses spoke about the special nature of the Fire <br />Department and how it was not a moneymaking <br />business. <br />Retiree Joe Rosene spoke about the absence of a genuine <br />security issue, and the presence of a personality issue. <br />Klausing asked for a sequence of background events, and <br />indicated willingness to compromise. <br />Kough spoke in favor of the curr�n�;r�ation. <br />Kysylyczyn withdrew his motion. Maschka moved, <br />Kysylyczyn seconded, to refer the matter to the City <br />Manager with a report back to the Council within 30 <br />days.
