• a) Water Main Laterals <br />A network of water pipes and reldted appurtenances usudlly 6 or $ <br />inches in size which are instal led with about 8 feet of ground <br />cover to retard freezing and are designed to serve those buildings <br />abutting a given Street or easement. Lateral mains are "looped' <br />wherever possible to balance pressures and to provide water from <br />at least two directions so that continuous water service is <br />maintained for most people during-a water main break. Looping of <br />'�L. <br />7; _- <br />`�' lateral mains eliminates dead end water mains that cause a variety <br />of distribution and stagnation problems. Appurtenances to these <br />facilities would include valves, fittings and fire hydrants. <br />e) Water Main Building Service <br />These pipes lead from laterals (or sometimes from trunk and <br />• subtrunk mains) and serve individual buildings abutting thereon. <br />The size of the service usually ranges from 3/4 inch to 6 inch <br />�� <br />� <br />, <br />�-- � <br />depending upon the type of building served. The lines terminate <br />at the property line with a shut off valve and are plugged until <br />such time that the building is connected to the water system. <br />The property owner must make arrangements with a licensed, bonded <br />plumber to complete the service connection. <br />f} Water Connection Char�e (WCC) <br />This is a charge billed to all properties at the time of <br />connection to the water system. The charge is the individual <br />property share of the cost of the trunk, source and storage <br />facilities which make water service available.
