NM I-35W CORRIDOR COALITION <br />2001 ANNUAL REPORT <br />♦ The Coalition's Website was completely <br />redesigned and relocated for security <br />purposes. <br />♦ Mark Bloomer was appointed the <br />Coalition's GIS Coordinator for 2002. <br />The Coalition's GIS Task Force and <br />Mark Bloomer will manage the <br />Coalition's GIS Intern program during <br />2002. <br />♦ The Coalition was given a$100,000 <br />grant from the Minnesota State <br />Legislature to assist the organization <br />with the coordination of inember city's <br />comprehensive plans. This grant <br />unfortunately was frozen and later lost as <br />part of the State's 2002 budget balancing <br />effort. Senators Satveer Chaudhary <br />Mady Reiter along with Representatives <br />Krinke and Evans carried this legislation <br />for the Coalition. A special thank you <br />for your efforts. <br />♦ The Greater Metropolitan Housing <br />Corporation HousingResource Center'�"I <br />(GMHC) Program was implemented in 6 <br />of the member cities, plus the City of <br />Coon Rapids. Late in the year the City <br />of North St. Paul indicated a desire to <br />become a participant in the HRC <br />program. <br />♦ The `Larson Historic Site' in Shoreview <br />will be the location for the <br />HousingResource Center�� [Add picture <br />of house here] Ramsey County provided <br />funds to help rehabilitate the `Larson <br />Historic Site and also provided operating <br />funds for the Center. The restored home <br />will be occupied by GHMC in early <br />Spring 2002. <br />♦ The Coalition executed contracts with <br />Meyers, Mohhades & Associates and <br />SRF Consulting Group to conduct <br />transportation and transit studies that <br />were part of the 2001-2020 Buildout <br />Study. These contracts are scheduled to <br />be completed in early 2002. <br />♦ Under a j oint powers agreement with the <br />Minnesota Department of Transportation <br />(MNDOT) the Coalition engaged the <br />services of SRF Consulting Group to <br />conduct a transportation study of the <br />Interstate 35W, (I35V� Interstate 694 (I- <br />694), Trunk Highway 10, and Trunk <br />Highway 36 portions of the <br />transportation infrastructure system <br />through member cities. The study will <br />be used to help manage and effectively <br />plan for the future of these systems as <br />they impact the corridor. MnDOT fully <br />funded the study. SRF reported its <br />findings to the Coalition and MnDOT in <br />late December 2001. <br />♦ The Coalition updated its brochure for <br />2001 and it can be seen on the <br />Coalition's Website: www.i35w.org. <br />[Live Link Website] <br />♦ The Coalition submitted a`Letter of <br />Inquiry' to the McKnight Foundation <br />seeking a unique funding partnership to <br />assist Coalition members with the front- <br />end development and redevelopment <br />projects as well as transportation and <br />transit system improvement projects that <br />don't qualify for any other types of <br />funding. <br />♦ Coalition members meet with <br />Congressman Bill Luther and staff to <br />give an update on Coalition activities <br />and begin dialogue for possible future <br />federal funding for Coalition and/or <br />member projects. <br />♦ The Coalition Institute was initiated in <br />200 1. This informal gathering has given <br />both members and others an opportunity <br />to learn more about `what is happening' <br />in member communities as well as share <br />different ways to deal with development <br />4 <br />
