Participants in Workshop #1 identii►ed issues related to
growth anddevelopment
. Demographics
. Land use
. Transportation patterns
focused on issue identification while the second
workshop focused on land use scenarios and
ridership. The process also included one-on-one
interviews with each participating community
that provided additional information regarding
potential development sites.
A study area inventory was taken for the North-
east Diagonal Corridor. This inventory included:
. Base mapping
GIS data gathering
. Background and field review
Additionally, a ridership market assessment of the study area was taken, including the analysis of
expected future demographics and travel patterns. A development framework map was created
and opportunity sites selected from which the land use/transit scenarios were developed.
DEMOGRAPHICS
Nearly half of the study area's total popu-
lation is found in the two westernmost
segments-Northeast Minneapolis and
St. Anthony. With Roseville, this west-
ern half of the study area contains 75%
of its total population.
The study area and the surrounding cit-
ies are growing at a modest pace.
. The population of the study area is aging; the youngest of the working adults, those most
likely to use transit, live the closest to the majorjob centers of downtown Minneapolis and
Roseville.
. Family and household sizes are dropping: the proportion of households is decreasing.
Northeast Diagnal IAND uSE/tRANSIT Study
