They come to escape poverty, hunger, discrimination, war; the list goes on and on. For
years now, immigration has been a solution. for some people. It allows them to receive equal
rights, an income, and overall a better life, However, immigration has raised p roblems for
America and its legal citizens. fn order to solve some of the immigration problems involvin the
g
United States, I believe that immigration laws should be enforced on U.S. immigrants.
Roberto Martinez, the director of .S /Mexican Border Program,, believes that the presence
of American troops will cause more problems for the U.S and Mexico. He explains in a Motion
Magazine Interview that Representative Jim Tra icant Introduced legislation to bring 10,000
troops to California. That doesn't even include the 5,000 border patrol agents that are on the
Mexican o rdcr, approved by congress recently. Martinez believes that this is a bad decision
because it will interrupt movc ent, and that it will interrupt free trade. I disagive, because having
lots of protection on the border allows fairness to both American citizens, and immigrants that are
legally applying to be a citizen of America. At the same time, human rights are bein g resp ected;
immigrants who apply legally, will have a better chance than an illegal im ant does when it
comes to living in this country.
Once imm igrants get into this country, they need jobs. Because the amount of good j obs is
already taken by Americans, lesser educated immigrants are left with the dirtier, lesser paid jobs
that Americans don "t want. when immigrants are hired to do those jobs, they are often paid less
money than an American born citizen would make on the same job. Some people may argue this
to be discrimination, or against the immigrants' human rights. This is a problem, however most
immigrants with low class jobs do not complain or ask for a raise because their income is more
that likely higher than what it was in their previous country.
