In my opinion, generalizing immigrants as one class of people is sort of like generalizin
Americans. It is an impossible thing to do. However, it appears that Knowing English and havin
g
a good education make a difference in how immigrants succeed in Arnenea. For example,
Y
sister's doctor is a legal immigrant from South Africa, and extremely well educated. M friend's
dad is another example. He is an educated engineer, and he legally emigrated from Sweden.
These two people have greatols, and know perfect English. Then there are the people who are
legal immigrants that barely know how to speak English. They appear to he low income and most
likely struggle in their new homeland. All three examples are of legal immigrants and yet their
view of America is probably much different.
The biggest human rights issue today in America., is the act of illegal immigration. f
believe that human's have a aright to live wherever they want to on Earth, but e er thin g has to be
legal, and laves should be enforced. A current controversy in Congress right now is an idea that
the U.S should a]Io v illegal imm1grants live here, and require them to pay our taxes. I think that
this is extremely unfair to those who wait gears to come here, but now they can not, because some
people are illegally running across the border. Illegal immigrants should not be any exception to
consequences of breaking our laws.
Imagine the life of Ritu, a girl who struggles her days in Bangladesh. Because she has to
take care of her brother's and sister's, she has no education. She has tried to apply for a visa, but
the American Embassy tells Ritu that because of the amount of room in America, It will he at
least 8 years before she could get in. Now, imagine a poor family living in Mexico. They have no
job, a chance for an education, or money. Surviving is a struggle, and as they look at Texas on the
other side of the river, they imagine a better life. The family kDo s that applying for a visa could
be impossible, so they sneak into America illegally.
Because millions of illegal immigrants are taping up space, the people who are w aiting in
line to get into America for years have a. slim chance. What's what I believe to he the biggest
issue.
