Data Geeks Subcommittee <br />Commissioner Barb Yates said the subcommittee had not met but they are ready to review what <br />data they had available and see what the City and the Human Rights Commission should <br />monitor. <br />5. Business Items <br />5a. Election of Vice Chair of the Commission <br />Chair Singleton explained that at the October meeting, the Commission elected him to the chair <br />position but the election of the Vice Chair was continued to the November meeting. Vice Chair <br />Oftelie suggested that she would be willing to serve until March 2011, at which time she would <br />be going off the commission, and then the most senior person present could fill the role of Vice <br />Chair. <br />Chair Singleton said the Vice Chair doesn't have an active role, and nothing in the bylaws <br />prohibits having a rotating position. <br />Chair Singleton moved and Commissioner Yates seconded the nomination for Marie Oftelie stay <br />in the position of Vice Chair until her term expires. There were no further nominations. The <br />motion passed unanimously. <br />5b. Update on Youth Representative <br />Carolyn Curti told commissioners that the City had received one application so far and another <br />youth indicated he was going to apply. The deadline to apply is November 19. Commissioners <br />asked Curti to send information to Northwest Youth and Family Services. <br />Once the deadline passed, Curti will send applications to the Visions of Success Subcommittee <br />for action in time for action at the December meeting. <br />5c. Essay Contest Timeline <br />Curti reviewed the essay contest timeline. She will collect essays from the schools on November <br />12. Commissioners will review essays and submit their top three choices by December 8. <br />Commissioners will receive top 24 essays at the December meeting and review and score them <br />before the January meeting, at which time the Commission will select the top essays. <br />Winners will be invited read their essays to the City Council at one of the February meetings. <br />6.
