if you want to (inaudible).

MR. THOMPSON: In other words (inaudible) three months
after it's put up if it's approved (inaudible) get no parking
signs along there. We don't have any control over that - this
is the traffic control.

MAYOR DEMOS: The county put&-the "no parking" signs on
county roads.

MR. THOMPSON: And they can do it without any notice to any
of the residents.

MAYOR DEMOS: He said with the request of the Council. I
don't think the Council will request "no parking". ~r.. (inau-
dible) along Lake Josephine.

MR. THOMPSON: If this is approved, can we get the speed
limits lowered to 30 or 20 miles an hour?

MAYOR DEMOS: 20? - you can't even shift into high.

MR. THOMPSON: In Saint Paul there are 20 mile speed limits
around schools.

MAYOR DEMOS: The Council can request a study but the
county again has to authorize it.

CDUNCILMAN HESS: The people themselves generally say what
the sp~ed limit is going to be on a road. If you drive in a
30 mile zone and the average traffic is 35, they have raised it
instead of lowering it.

MAYOR DEMOS: The state makes a study and at 85% of what
the cars are trayaling is where the speed limit is set.

MR. THOMPSON: In other words, if we got a 30 mile an hour
street down there in front of anybody's house and everybody
decides to drive 55, right in front of somebody's house they
will change the speed limit to 55. There's a study done and
500 people get tickets because they're driving 55 - the next
week it will be raised to 55.

11
