three hundred some people that voted for me. Those people I
represent, but I also repre3ent a lot of people that say I'm a
good guy but they didn't happen to come to the polls and vote
for me. You got to remember we sit up here. We can't sit out
in the audience and count hands. We're not going to get 5,000
hands. If you could get 5,000 hands that said t'm against the
project, I wouldn't dare vote for it - no wvy. I'd be stupid
to vote for it even if I thought it was good, but in this case
I want to make one little c~mment. I voted for the storm sewer
and I'm not all that impressed with storm sewers. I've been
accused of being in favor of those but I don't like casual water
Rome place that happens to be six or eight fe~ deep that kids
can play in occasionally when there's enough water to fill them
up. I don't like to go to somebody's house and find out his
basement got flooded because the water came in from outside that
wasn't handled properly, but on this storm sewer nobody has said
anything about that. Nobody said anyting about flooded base-
ments but I'm IT10re in favor of the road than the storm sewer, but
in order to get the road - and this is something I don't think
Mr. Dorso understood - in order to get the road you have to get
the storm sewer. If you don't take the water away the county
will not put the road in. If we voted the storm sewer down
there would have been no reason to have the hearing on the road.
They wouldn't put it through there because we wouldn't be han-
dling our storm water properly. So this idea of voting in the
audience - we know you're against it - you're the people that
come to the hearing and we're glad of it. Sometimes with as
good a staff and professional people - sometimes something comes
out of these hearings to change our minds. It stands out like a
red flag and we say we can't do it and the staff sits back and
says, why, we thought of it but we didn't think it meant that
much, but really they missed tt so that's why we have the public
hearing to make sure that everything that I've been reading,
studying, lo~(ing at to make my decision, to make sure they've
given it all to me - all this stuff you're talking about -
we've known about it - they tell us - they tell us how it is and
I'm like you - I don't want to spend the money.

MAYOR DEMOS: I think the Council has a contribution to
people other than those that reside on the county road, but an
obligation to all who use that road, and certainly to all of the
Rams9Y County taxpayers that pay for it. I share the tax on
that road. There will be no assessment for the pavement of that

18
