Motion carried 4/0.
Forum on Race/Diversity Training Planning
Chair Delmore introduced guests Nancy Hite, Co -Chair of the City of Shoreview Human Rights
Commission, and Loudi Rivamonte, United Way's Cultural Dynamics Committee Coordinator.
Nancy Hite, Co -Chair of the City of Shoreview Human Rights Commission
Ms. Hite reviewed the City of Shoreview HRC's focus from children to engage adults and
increase their awareness of human rights and cultural issues. Ms. Hite said the United Way
model best fit their needs based on their positive approach. She used the United Way program
and personnel in planning the dialogue. The United Way provided planning, informational, and
educational materials; the United Way's website was a great resource and the expertise of their
staff in partnering with the City. Ms. Hite noted that previous initiatives tied by Shoreview had
not been well attended, but by partnering with other entities, they were able to build a base from
the inception and brainstormed potential community partners to develop a list that was divided
among each HRC Commissioner to contact potential partners.
Discussion included Roseville resources, importance of making personal rather than mailed
contact with potential partners, not just funding sources but creating buy -in for the partners
through volunteers or money with each sending a representative to the planning committee and
encouraging them to bring people with their individual and corporate perspectives to the forum.
