Commissioner Venters and City Manager Malinen conferred on a time to meet with the City <br />Attorney during his weekly office hours at City Hall. Commissioner Venters expressed his desire <br />to receive comments from all parties and put the document in good form prior to its presentation <br />to the City Council. <br />City Manager Malinen advised Commissioner Venters to contact the City's Administrative <br />Secretary to schedule time. <br />Chair Delmore asked that Commissioner Venters try to set up the meeting in the late afternoon <br />so she could also attend. <br />Buying Books for Schools <br />Vice Chair Bosch provided a handout on her research on the "Families All Matter" curriculum <br />and reader training provided by "aMaze." <br />Discussion included the schools with in the City limits rather than in the Roseville School <br />District (i.e., Central Park, Brimhall Parkview Center School); volunteer roles and <br />opportunities to help implement the program; books currently available at those participating <br />schools and potential books. <br />Commissioner McGehee suggested that the School Librarians provide their preferred books to be <br />purchased by the HRC. <br />Chair Delmore advised that she had notified Ms. Curti that funds for the book purchase were to <br />come from 2007 HRC funds. <br />Commissioner McKenzie said ways to effectively engaging citizens was missing and suggested <br />the HRC pay for training five mentors or parents. <br />Further discussion included how and who to recruit as readers for training, content and intent of <br />training, potential involvement of school PTAs and ways to enhance the program and increase <br />communication with citizens. <br />Commissioner Bosch moved and Commissioner Venters seconded approval of moving forward <br />with the "All Families Matter" curriculum; amending the December motion for the three schools <br />(i.e., Central Park, Brimhall and Parkview Center School) for a donation of books in the amount <br />of $125 per school for books, in addition to $100 for a reader training program; with a total <br />expenditure of $475, rather than the original allotment of $500. Motion carried 6/0. <br />Vice Chair Bosch said she would work with the schools representatives with which she had <br />already made contact <br />Other <br />City Manager Malinen asked whether the HRC preferred that the Essay Contest presentation be <br />at the City Council meeting of February 11 or February 25, 2008. By consensus, Commissioners <br />chose February 11. <br />
