Human Rights Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />October 13, 2009 <br /> <br />Call to Order: Chair David Singleton called to order the meeting of the Roseville Human <br />Rights Commission (HRC) at a pproximately 6:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Commissioners Present: Chair David Singleton; and Comm issioners Peg Kennedy; Marie <br />Oftelie; Gary Grefenberg; Liz Jaeger; Thelma McKenzie; and <br />Barbara Yates. <br /> <br />Commissioners Excused: None. <br /> <br />Others Present: Communications Specialist Carolyn Curti and Recording Secretary <br />Sheila Stowell <br /> <br />I. Approve Minutes of September 8, 2009 <br />Member Grefenberg provided a bench handout w ith three (3) requested revisions and/or <br />additions to the September 8, 2009 meeting minutes. <br /> <br />Amendment 1, Page 4, Lines 23 – 23 <br />Suggested to read as follows : <br />“Member Grefenberg expressed his concern in addressing not only cultural, but lifestyle <br />[other forms of] diversity, in the community as we ll; and questioned if the cultural <br />complementary model should be the focus for future forums; further questioning whether <br />all [every norm in all] cultures n eeded to be accommodated.” <br /> <br />Amendment 2, Page 4, Line 39 <br />Suggested to read as follows : <br />“Member Grefenberg addresse d recent alleged discrimination activities in the Anoka- <br />Hennepin School District among [by] certain teaching staff; and sought input from <br />individual HRC members related to local school district provisions.” <br /> <br />Amendment 3, Page 5, Line 7 <br />Suggested addition of a new paragraph as follows : <br />[Member Grefenberg noted he was uncomfo rtable with the fact that one of the <br />committee members planning the “Crea ting a Welcoming Community” Dialogue <br />represented Northwestern College, an inst itution which he understood did not welcome <br />gay or lesbian students or employees. (Grefenberg later clarified that the Northwestern <br />College representative had not participated so far in the committee’s discussions).] <br /> <br />Members discussed suggested Amendment #3 a nd whether the additional statement was <br />indicated. <br />
