II

MR. PERMAN: That's right.

COUNCILMAN FRANKE: That's a problem you will have.
That's society today.

MR. PERMAN: I would think stop signs are the least that
can be done for Skillman. Aldine has been mentioned, and
we have a school crossing at Herschel and there's no way you
can go across that effectively unless you control traffic
there as well.

COUNCILMAN FRANKE: Can't you have a school patrol?
MR. PERMAN: They don't.
COUNCILMAN FRANKE: Couldn't you petition them to do it?

MR. PERMAN: I presume you can.

COUNCILMAN FRANKE: I can't imagine that they don't have a
school patrol at 8:00 and 4:00.

MR. PERMAN: The problem with a school patrol at that
point is children, being what they are, will wander through
backyards, and it's either there or Aldine - there's no
set crossing where they do cross.

COUNCILMAN FRANKE: There should be one. When did you
move on to Skillman?

MR. PERMAN: 1968.

COUNCILMAN FRANKE: So when you moved in the bowling
alley was already there. This generates some of your traffic
but (inaudible) became residential after this other was already
there and Har-Mar was there and you have to understand that I
sympathize with you because I moved out here in 1952 and
built on County Road B - a nice little road I thought would
be plowed every day and a nice street to live on. The village
has grown, the population has grown, and I guess what I'm
feeling is that we should not have bad streets simply to
control the traffic. I feel we all bear a responsibility.
We built where we did. We have to raise our children. My
children had to cross County Road B to catch a school bus and I
think children who are raised in sheltered residential areas
are not taught safety as much as they would be if they lived
on a busy street, but I can't feel there would be any
additional (inaudible) on Skillman other than what is already
generated by the additional homes and people in there, and I
can't help but feel that a nice street and a place to walk
would be better than what you have now.
