12

MR. PERMAN: I'm afraid it will generate more traffic.
(inaudible)Perhaps I've expressed some of my own views
and may not have (inaudible) the views of the citizens.
There are several here, if someone else would like to speak
to this.

MAYOR DEMOS: I had closed the hearing, but if you have
someone else to speak -

MARGARET THOMAS, 1606 Skillman: Do you have a copy of
that letter I wrote? These are my feelings which I had
expressed to the Council members and I'd like to read it to
you. "The feeling I get after attending the Council meeting,
Monday, March 10 regarding the improvement of Skillman Avenue
is that the people on Skillman Avenue would accept the MSA
road if the traffic could be controlled.

I think we all agree that Skillman Avenue has to be
upgraded. As a thoroughfare used by other than Roseville
residents, I feel it is a disgrace to the city. When I
have visitors here from Rochester I am ashamed when we drive
west to Fairview because they remark about the condition
of the street not having been improved in the four years
that I have lived here.

I don't feel the difference of six feet for the MSA
requirements and a street where the property owners would be
paying for the improvements would make that much difference
in speeding. That is, after all, only three feet on each side.

Making Skillman a one way street even if only part way,
or blocking it at Aldine (as was suggested by various
people) would be very conconvenient, and I think hurt business
at Har-Mar. I think Har-Mar needs all the help it can get
to continue in business and bring revenue to the city.

As to the point of children crossing to Brimhall school,
my four children had to cross a much busier street but with
the assistance of a school patrol there was never an accident
all the while they were in school. I am sure this situation
could be worked out with the cooperation of the school.

A thought I had on the way home from the meeting was
the possibility of a bike path on the no parking side which
could also be used as a walkway and would certainly be safer
than walking is now.

I want to say I am in favor of going forward with the
MSA plan and feel confident that something can be worked out
with stop signs, Slow Children Crossing signs, and some
police surveillance, etc. to control the traffic."

Thank you.
