7

and the people said "no way".

MR. MOHL: We didn't even know a petition was being circulated,
or had been. I talked to Mr. Colby and he was the one that started
it and he didn't even come and tell me when they were sampling the
soil on the street that he had anything to do with it and that's the
thing that irritates me. It's an undercover deal.I'm giving you
our opinion. It's small town stuff.

COUNCILMAN FRANKE: We can't do anything about that.

MR. THOMAS MARTIN, 2981 Patton Road: As far as small town
politics or undercover, one day some neighbors were talking we'd
like to get our road repaved. A few years ago the cost was $7.77
and there was such a stink so I guess the minorities came down
and - or the people that didn't want it apparently were in the minority
and they raised all the heck, so last summer we were talking and we
got a petition. Out of 14 houses, lO signed, two weren't home that
day, and two wouldn't sign. We sent it in. It was just a one-day
petition. We didn't petition Millwood or Stanbridge or Manson. I
don't feel we should petition someone else that doesn't live on our
block. There's nothing underhanded about it. If the majority of the
people donlt want it that's fine, but if the majority do, that's
what the hearing is for.

MR. MOHL: But it happens we're on Patton Road and we didn't get
the petition. We have more space on Patton than any other lot on the
street. There's just no sense to it.

MAYOR DEMOS: Anyone else?

MR. ALBERT JACKSON, 2959 Patton Road: I did not know about the
petition. I did not know about it until I got the notice in the mail.
I feel like this other gentleman - 'to single out one block is just a
waste of money.I think if the area were to be improved that might
be another story.

Another thing just occurred to me. I heard the project where
they are not going to excavate any of the present street, so what are
we going to do - have a big bump? No, it just doesn't make sense. I
think that the City Council is remiss in their duties if they allow
just a small area like this to have such a large expenditure of
money for no purpose at all.

11AYOR DEMOS: We do have streets throughout the City and I don't
think we have bumps like that. I think they have been worked into
the next street.

MR. JACKSON: It just seems to me it accomplishes nothing. The
letter says that it would help better drainage and snow plowing.
What good is one block going to do in an area where there's several
other streets involved?

COUNCILMAN FRANKE: It helps the people who live there.

MR. JACKSON: There's no problem with the street right now.
It's fine as it is.
