4

Obviously it might be nice to put a pathway all the way along and say
that would be ideal for the bikers and walkers. With the roadway
being moved three feet to the north, and with a rather limited
available space, it was very obvious that it couldn't fit in most
of this area without having extreme impact, so it was merely reviewed
for the possibility of whether we would want to tie on the existing
walk near Rice and take a pathway outside the pavement to the
point where it would meet this bicycle path. If that were done,
however, there would be again severe impact along that line with
the trees that exist in this area. There are an additional eight
trees that would have to be removed if that were done and there
would have to be a certain amount of sloping into some of the front
yards because the impacting would go back almost to the property
line. One of the main reasons for posing this was to get a
reaction from the people as to whether it would be useful. I
think that essentially completes it, and perhaps we can answer
questions beyond that.

MR. POPOVICH: The total estimated cost of this improvement is
$443,300. There are 5,389 assessable frontage feet involved and
if it were 100% assessed it would be $82.25 a front foot. Of
the 5,389 assessable feet there are 303 feet of property other
than non tax exempt R-l and R-2 property so that would be the only
footage that would be assessed at $82.25 a foot to raise
$24,962. The rest of the improvement would be picked up by the
M.S.A. funds, as explained.

MAYOR DEMOS: Do we have a breakdown on that bike path?

REPRESENTATIVE OF THE SHORT, ELLIOTT, HENDRICKSON office:
Those were quoted in the original cost and it's roughly about
$l7,000 for the bike path.

MAYOR DEMOS: Any written statements?

MR. ANDRE: There are no letters or communications.

MAYOR DEMOS: I will open the hearing. I again ask that you
come to the microphone, give your name and address or the address
to which you're referring.

MR. JOE TAUGNER, 2271 Western Avenue: What are you going
to do with Western, drop that (inaudible).

MR. HONCHELL: Did you say drop that north?

MR. TAUGNER: To the south.

MR. HONCHELL: We're going to try to match what is there for
Western Avenue until such time as we're ready to make the improve-
ment on Western.
