myself. I'd like to consider everybody. But I'm also considering
those people when I look at Merrill. I thought Merrill was much
worse than Dellwood. When I look at those patches - and like I
said - I would ask you to objectively drive down - it's really two
full blocks or three short blocks - and take a look at the amount
of patchwork that's been put in there, and then ask youself - is
it fair that someone who has moved in here within the last five
or eight years and has paid IOO% of the cost - if it is fair to
them to have to pick up the costs for a bad street. That is one
of the things that affect my vote.

MR. JAMES FOLEY: I guess I'm being a little selfish because
I've only looked at about 50 feet of Merrill. I have no problem
with that SO feet. I go out there and play ball with my kids,
the ball rolls, that's no problem. I drive on it (inaudible).
I just don't want it forced on somebody because I made a stupid
decision in the way I signed it.

MAYOR DEMOS: The decision is not going to be made on your
signature.

MR. JAMES FOLEY: I don't want that to influence anybody
either. But you're telling me that you listen to the people
(inaudible) .

MRS. MARY FLANAGAN, 2844 Merrill Street: My husband is
back there and he sent me up. We are for the project, but at the
29 feet.

MAYOR DEMOS: Incidentally, Mary is someone that if she
doesn't like what you're doing in between hearings, she'd let you
know about that too.

MR. MIKE DUNLEAVY, 2836 Merrill: I signed the petition, I'm
for it. I was for it at the time and I'm still for it. It's
going to come sooner or later and I think now is the time to do
it when the costs are reasonable. I stand for it.

MR. MERLE MCGRATH, 2819 Merrill Street: The first question
I have is for Mr. Honchell. Would there be any trees, when they're
taken~out, that will be replaced by the City?

MR. HONCHELL: The program right now is not to replace
boulevard trees. In fact, there's a code restriction that says
no trees may currently be planted in the boulevard areas, for
reasons such as we're experiencing tonight. We encourage people
to have the trees on their own private property so they won't
ever be impacted by any of these improvements or a project, be
it sidewalks, cable TV, Bell Telephone or anyone else. So there
is no proposal as part of this project to plant those affected
trees that may come out as part of the project.

MR. MERLE McGRATH: Thank you. Earlier this evening, Mayor
Demos indicated that people drive across yards. I'm at 2819
Merrill Street and this is one of the things that I have ex-
perienced many, many times - people driving across (inaudible).

17
