of the economics of the time, it's a good time to be out for
bids. We're experiencing the same thing at the agency for which
I work. But I don't know how long this is going to last and I
think it's good to take advantage of that. I think the marketa-
bility of our houses, that is - if somebody can buy on our street
or buy a similar house a block over where the curb and gutter are
in place and the street is paved - that's also improved. I'm
not talking about value. I'm talking about your ability to sell
it if somebody wanted to buy it. I have no intentions of moving.
There has been some concern expressed about traffic and speeding
of traffic. It's there now. In fact, my wife is the one that
wrote and asked that a stop sign be put in at C-2 and Merrill
and it was put in promptly, even though they had to put it in
when there was a little frost on the ground. I think maybe some
additional traffic control, signs, would be beneficial in the
neighborhood. I think that's a better solution than attempting
to keep the street as bumpy as possible in an attempt to slow
down the traffic. I don't think that's going to work because
they're speeding now. The gentleman that talked about Dellwood,
that talked about the traffic on Judith. Everybody agreed that
Judith is in poor shape, but they also agreed that the traffic
speeds on Judith. So, has a poor Judith slowed down the traffic?
It hasn't. So, will a poor Merrill slow down the traffic on
Merrill? I dare say it will not. One thing I like about the
29 foot street is that now cars do park on a narrower roadway,
which we now have, which varies from 25 to 30 feet, I think he
said. On a 29 foot roadway, if there was only parking on one
side, it would be safer than what we now have where there is
parking on both sides on a narrower street. Although my children
are grown, I share Dale Charboneau's concern about the little
children. Indeed it is hazardous. I wish there was no parking
on either side of our street. That would be better yet. But
certainly parking on one side is better than parking on both
sides on a narrow parkway, which we now have. I think maybe I
have covered all I care to cover. Again, I want to thank the
Council for going through this democratic process and hearing our
concerns.

MAYOR DEMOS: Is there anyone else who wishes to be heard?

MRS. LESLIE BERRY, 283S Merrill: I'd like to say that because
of the traffic problem, which I think is very severe, I'm the
mother of three young children, and you can give them lectures
and all sorts of things, but you have no sidewalks, no other way
to go for defense, I do not want curbs - I want them to be able
to get off the street as quickly as possible - I stand opposed.

MRS. SUSAN ECKFELDT, 2866 Merrill: For all the reasons that
have already been mentioned, we're opposed.

MRS. 11ARILYN RESLER, 2788 Merrill: I am definitely opposed.
My question is - you say there are 15 trees for sure, but how
many more after you do the grading? How many, in a couple of
years, will come down in a storm because the root system has been
dug up? There is nothing wrong with that street. You should
drive down there. I am definitely opposed.

7
