Regular City Council Meeting
Monday,April 25, 2011
Page 13
Mr. Lenhoff noted that many of Roseville's apartments were one bedroom; and
AEON was serving to address the demand for and focus on affordable family
units at the Sienna Greene project.
Mr. Lenhoff noted the location of the "tot lot" that had been located closer in
proximity to the Phase I building to provide a location that was safer and under
direct observation for children using the lot; with a larger playground planned on
the site for other children, in addition to more green space for picnic tables and
grills. Mr. Lenhoff observed that this served to supplement the many park facili-
ties in the Roseville community, now more easily accessed by their residents with
additional sidewalk connections.
Related to building height, Mr. Lenhoff advised that when initially reviewed in-
ternally in 2009, it was determined to not increase the height of the building,
based on ordinance limitations, as well as anything above four stories required
steel construction rather than wood frame, and greatly increased square footage
construction costs.
Mr. Lenhoff clarified that by community spaces within the building, he was refer-
ring to community rooms, not a community center, that would serve the project it-
self for AEON functions and resident family gatherings, as well as reaching out to
resident connections/programs to facilitate various self-help classes.
Councilmember McGehee expressed her concerns with the shortage of park space
in this area of the community; seeking to ensure that reasonable opportunities
were available for older children.
Mr. Lenhoff addressed similar units to Sienna Green that had been developed by
AEON in the metropolitan area, and how the needs of outdoor play space for
children had been adequately addressed.
Mayor Roe questioned how AEON intended to deal with the pedestrian safety and
flow for the entire site, and specifically in their access to the southern portion of
the site.
Mr. Lenhoff reviewed sidewalk connections around the parking areas.
Mr. Lenhoff thanked the City of Roseville for its support; and their related coor-
dination with the Metropolitan Council to complete the County Road B portion of
the sidewalk that connected to Sienna Green, providing additional safety for pede-
strians in that area.
Johnson moved, Willmus seconded, adoption of Resolution No. 10894 Attach-
ment D, provided as a bench handout, attached hereto and made a part hereof),
and entitled, "A Resolution Approving the VACATION of CERTAIN PUBLIC
UTILITY and DRAINAGE EASEMENTS on Lot 2, Block 1, Sienna Green Ad-
