Roseville Human Rights Commission <br />May 10, 2011 <br />Draft Minutes <br />Page 3 of 5 <br />Carolyn Curti asked for clarification about spending money up to $150 for refreshments at the task <br />force meetings, noting that the city does not provide refreshments at commission or council <br />meetings. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg noted several examples of city meetings providing food, including Ethics <br />training and community forums. <br />Commissioner Kennedy raised concerns about spending tax dollars for planning meetings. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg amended his motion, changing the dollar amount to not exceed $50 for <br />food at the Civic Engagement task force meetings, unless city policy prohibited such an <br />expenditure. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg renewed his motion. Motion prevailed 3/0/1 with Commissioner <br />Kennedy abstaining. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg reviewed the second subcommittee recommendation to sponsor a <br />community forum on issues of civil rights for gays and lesbians this calendar year, with a program <br />to be developed by the Project 515 Educational Campaign. <br />Commissioners discussed timing and coordination, including working with other area commissions <br />to support the efforts. <br />Commissioner Grefenberg said that the recommendation included seeking co- sponsorship for the <br />HRC of adjacent communities. <br />Commissioner Kennedy moved and Commissioner Brisbois seconded motion to host a community <br />forum on civil rights for gays and lesbians and to work with neighboring commissions to host the <br />event. Motion prevailed unanimously. <br />3b. Internal Affairs <br />Commissioner Grefenberg asked that the election of vice -chair be moved until after Chair Singleton <br />arrived. <br />3c. Youth Commissioner Report <br />Commissioner Grefenberg asked Carolyn Curti to provide information. Curti noted that all three of <br />the youth representatives contacted her about other commitments and could not attend the meeting. <br />Commissioner Josephson had dropped off ideas stickers or magnets or other uses at the Rose Parade <br />to help promote the Commission. Commissioner Kennedy recommended buying pencils since kids <br />need and use them. <br />Commissioners discussed raising visibility, cost of pencils and importance of having our name <br />visible. <br />
